We are fortunate to live within close proximity to Wilber Lake and the beautiful Bonnechere River that flows through the heart of Renfrew County.
The picture above was taken in the early morning from the top of the hill overlooking Wilber Lake and the Bonnechere River. The picture below shows a late afternoon close-up of the same location.
Remnants of an old, unexposed rock weir, visible only as a ripple across the surface of the water slows the flow at the south eastern confluence of Wilber Lake and the Bonnechere River as the river tumbles and winds its way downstream toward the village of Eganville.
If you are considering a fun and informative vacation in this area, take a minute to visit the Friends of Bonnechere Park website. This is an amazing site chock full of great information and resources for teachers, tourists, residents and locals interested in the history, culture and heritage of this area.

No matter where you drive in Renfrew County, one thing is certain. You are guaranteed to discover some of the most delightful scenery in all of Canada. Renfrew County’s rugged beauty is second to none!
Recently as I was out and about the Valley on an early morning trek to meet with Annie and Carl, the new owners of the Wilno Craft Gallery, I came across this lovely winter scene just before entering the quaint community of Wilno, Ontario. This picturesque, old homestead snuggles comfortably into the hillside, seemingly oblivious to nature’s majestic backdrop.

On one of my winter rambles throughout the beautiful countryside of rural Renfrew County I came across these rusted old soldiers resting peacefully in the snow after years of faithful service in the Ottawa Valley lumber industry. Located on a side road in Combermere, these wonderful old trucks brought back nostalgic memories of days long gone.
I stopped for gas in Golden Lake and, as usual, admired the magnificent log building located just across the road from the Gas Station on Highway 60. The old White Rose Gas Pumps presented a pretty site against the back drop of the old squared timber logs.
It’s always a pleasure to go for a Sunday afternoon ramble throughout the Ottawa Valley. It’s almost like driving through a living postcard. You just never know what you might find, see or stumble upon!
